New MadeToTag supports
Caption, Blockquote & Index

The new plug-in axaio MadeToTag version 1.9.093 for InDesign CS6 – CC 2018 contains new options for the export tag selection to map the semantic structure in a PDF document even more accurate.

In a correctly tagged PDF, special text elements, such as Caption, Blockquote and Index, must be specifically marked as such. The PDF/UA standard (PDF for Universal Access) also provides the assignment of these specific tags in order to map the semantic structure in the PDF as precisely as possible. However, only basic tags (header or simple text) are used in InDesign. Special elements, such as Caption, Blockquote and Index, did not have their own tag equivalent in InDesign.

QuarkXPress 2018 with
integrated Callas pdfToolbox

Recently released QuarkXPress 2018 makes use of the Callas pdfToolbox internally. In the new XPress version pdfToolbox (with the help of the integrated Adobe PDF Library) now takes care of the conversion of the PostScript output from XPress into a PDF file. This was previously done with the built-in PDF Creator from Global Graphics.

Users of QuarkXPress 2018 can also use the pdfToolbox technology to create a single PDF file which complies with both PDF/X-4 and PDF/A-2. PDF/A is the ISO standard for long-term archiving, while PDF/X-4 is the ISO standard for exchanging printable PDF files. Users of QuarkXPress 2018 can also ‘tag’ the PDF files they create, providing internal information on the structure of the file’s content and the correct reading order. This latter feature is a prerequisite for accessible PDF files, meaning that users now only need to create and retain a single PDF file to fulfill printing, accessibility and long-term archiving requirements. This considerably simplifies PDF-based workflows! This is also shown in a video on YouTube.
