Enfocus has picked up six common myths about automation (time-consuming, complicated, will make me lose my job, not flexible, expensive, locks me in) and published short replies for each of them.
In Sommer 1990 my colleague Chuck Weger has presented the concept and the term “Preflight” for the first time. 1993 the application FlightCheck from Markzware was introduces, which could check files of layout applications (Aldus PageMaker, QuarkXPress, later Adobe InDesign).
The first preflight tool for PDF was devloped by Enfocus. Later Callas pdfInspektor, which is now part of Callas pdfToobox, was added. In 2002 the PDF/X-3 Inspector (Freeware) for Acrobat 5 was released which made creating and checking of the ISO standard PDF/X-3 possible. In April 2003 Adobe has implemented a preflight feature based on the Callas pdfInspector in Acrobat 6. Also in the latest Acrobat version the preflight feature is provided by Callas.
PDF Association has published an article entitled What will PDF 2.0 bring? which contains a short overview of the next PDF version. The publication of PDF2.0 (ISO 32000-2) is expected in 2017.
Dear PDF users As announced in the last issue of the german newsletter PDF-AKTUELL I have set up a new modern website with a blog. The URL is http://www.pdf-aktuell.ch. The website is in german and english. There is also a new newsletter which will serve to regularly send the most important articles of the blog to the subscribers. For the first time the newsletter will also be published in english.
I have already filled the blog since more than half a year with articles. The new web pages feature a comment function which will facilitate the dialog with the readers. In addition, there is a page with frequently asked questions (and the answers). I am looking forward to getting your feedback (positive and negative) as well as suggestions via the contact form. The implementation of the new website was delayed because I first wanted to finish my project at Novartis Pharma. I was responsible for the introduction of PDF/X-4 for all packaging materials on a global basis. This project was so successful that they don’t need my support anymore. Therefore, I have time again for my new website, new seminars and new projects! In case you are interested please contact me… 😉 Stephan Jaeggi
