QuarkXPress 2016
with PDF editing released

On May 24th Quark has released QuarkXPress 2016.

The new version can convert imported PDF pages (as well as Illustrator and EPS files) into native XPress objects. This allows direct editing of these objects in XPress.

I am planning to test this feature indepth and will share my finding here. (But only after Drupa…).

Please let me know how editing PDFs in XPress2016 works for you.

The PDF import and export features habe been improved. The four pages of the Ghent PDF Output Suite 4.0 are now processed without any problem. However XPress stops or crashes if I try to import the (not yet published) pages of the Ghent PDF Output Suite 5.0. The reason is a patch for testing JPEG2000 compression of ICCbased RGB objects.

With other layout applications like InDesign, VivaDesigner and Affinity Designer I could process the pages of the Ghent PDF Output Suite 5.0. I guess Quark has some homework to do…

Quark is not present with their own stand as an exhibitor at Drupa as in former years.
